Rules and Regs
Luckily we have the Scout Oath and Law to guide us all at this event. We still need to make sure everyone understands what local and state laws & permits are required.
Rules for Fishing Derby
- The Fishing Derby will begin on Saturday, April 23rd from 8:30 am, and run until 4:30 pm.
- All units must sign in at the registration desk before fishing. No fish will be judged until the unit is checked in for the Derby.
- All units must provide a contact phone number at registration.
- All Scouts and Scouters are required to have an updated Scouting Medical Form. The Medical Forms must be available during the Fishing Derby.
- Only Registered Scouts and Scouters can participate in the Fishing Derby.
- All adults and any person 17 years old or older must have an Indiana Fishing License to be able to fish. An Indiana Fishing License can be purchased online at //www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/9339.htm. Fishing licenses can also be obtained at most sporting stores. In addition, Patoka Station outside the park may have license, as well as, the Patoka Lake Park office. It is advisable to have the fishing license before coming to the Derby.
- Units can bring their own bait or purchase bait outside the Patoka Lake Park at Patoka Station.

- ON SHORE FISHING ONLY. No boats of any type will be allowed during the Fishing Derby (motor or boats without motors including kayaks and canoes).
- There will be designated fishing areas for the Derby.
- Any bait is acceptable; however, minnows cannot be released back into the lake once they are used or if the person has any left after fishing.
